Wedding Advice:: Richmond, Indiana Wedding
Sometimes the best wedding advice comes from a recent bride herself. When Richmond, Indiana bride Haley talked about not forgetting to savor every moment, I thought it was worth sharing to engaged couples who are either in the planning process or getting ready to enter into it.
Wedding Advice from a Bride
“My advice to anyone getting married is to enjoy the planning process. Everything will come together beautifully, but the most important thing you should not forget is to savor every moment. From choosing your dress with your closest friends and family, to the rehearsal dinner and those precious moments of getting ready with your bridesmaids before you say ‘I do,’ ensure that you are making memories along your planning journey instead of worrying about whats to come next. I loved the few personal touches I put into my day, such as making concrete votives with my dad in the backyard on a warm February weekend. Those are the memories that will make your day truly special.”
The part that really resonated with me was her reference to making memories with her dad on a warm February day in preparation for her summer wedding. These truly are the things you’ll reflect back on whether it’s with your dad or a grandma or a best friend.
Haley, now an interior designer for Pottery Barn, reflected back on what brought her and Garrett together. You can read more of their story here, but suffice it to say it only took a few months of Haley and Garrett spending time together to realize we were a perfect match. She remembers texting her mom to let her know she had met the man she was going to marry…he just didn’t know it yet.
What They’ve Learned
It’s been two months since they said “I do” and Haley feels like the time has given her a glimpse into our marriage. They discovered they love to garden together. And Garrett has helped her hang curtains, install shelves, gather interesting knobs for DIY projects and other odds and ends that make their new apartment feel like home. They have also set goals with each other as to where they want to be in one, five, and ten years down the road. Garrett works full-time as the Assistant Director of Operations in the Attorney’s General’s Office. He will be attending the IU McKinney School of Law part-time while maintaining his position in the Attorney General’s Office. Garrett is committed in everything he does and Haley knows she can always depend on him. He is deeply passionate about his career which propels him toward achieving so much at such a young age. While she tends to make decisions more hasty, Garrett is the exact opposite. He likes to take his time, weighing all of his options and seeking council from others. Garrett has taught her to take a step back, slow down and enjoy the journey.
In Their Own Words
” I have never seen Garrett get emotional and I had no idea how he would react on our wedding day. As we were exchanging vows I saw a softer side to him that I had never seen before. The weight of our vows was resinating with him and you could see the joy written all over his face. As my dad gave some of the sweetest and most sincere advice, we had our moment of “Wow, today we are finally here and I am so excited to spend the rest of my life with you,” and that is something I will never forget.” -Haley
“I really like how driven Haley is and when she feels something is important, she takes it seriously. This really balances our relationship. She knows exactly what she wants and she works to achieve her goals. It is nice to have someone who has this mentality. I also love how devoted she is to our relationship. She is always looking for the best way to make us a stronger couple. From the onset of our marriage she has us journaling weekly to make sure we were making time for one another and everything was being discussed in our relationship.” – Garrett
