Posing. Can I really look like this?
You might be feeling a lack of confidence scrolling through gorgeous images on Pinterest or photography websites thinking to yourself, “Can I really look like this in my wedding photos? I don’t know anything about posing.”
I got you. You’re not a supermodel? Perfect, me neither. We’ll be a great match. Photos are awkward without a great photographer guiding you with natural poses. I’ll help you each step of the way.
First off, let’s get rid of the word “pose”. The dictionary defines pose in this way: to assume a particular position, attitude or stance, especially with the hope of impressing, OR to present oneself insincerely.
Neither of these are very complimentary. And not how you want to capture you and your fiance, at all. This day is about seizing the moment of the two of you, authentically as you are together, surrounded by the energy of your love for each other, and the love from your family and close friends. No posing there. Let’s do this–use the word “direct” instead. The dictionary defines direct as: to manage or guide by advice, helpful information, or instruction.

My Style
My style is not to pose you, but rather take what comes naturally to you, alone or together, and “direct” you into something that feels comfortable and translates well to the camera. Perhaps your hand placement needs adjusted just a bit, or his head needs turned slightly. Another tactic of “directing” is for the two of you to be involved in an action together. This makes room for real reactions so I can capture you as a couple for who you really are. Walking down a path, whispering something in her ear, or even dancing silly together offer opportunities for the two of you to forget that you’re being photographed and natural expressions shine through.
Prompts
As you’re in the middle of some sort of action, I might “direct” you with an occasional prompt. There are fun prompts ( In your sexiest voice, whisper the names of as many breakfast cereals as you can think of into your partner’s ear), and romantic prompts (Show me the slowest kiss in the world.)

However we manage to get you there, yes, you can really look like that!
