Wedding Photography Indianapolis | FAQ

What is your shooting and editing style?

My shooting and editing style is simplistic, truthful, artistic and modern. I love both the genuine feel of a candid moment and the dramatic effect of a stylized one. I don’t like to pose people but instead encourage them to be themselves, offering some “coaching” along the way. I would describe my editing style as more classic. I want you to look at your images in ten years and still feel like the editing style is relevant, not a passing fad.

How long have you been photographing weddings?

I have been photographing professionally since 2006.

Do you travel?

Yes. Travel fees may occur, just ask!

How many photos can I expect from my wedding day?

The amount of images is just as individual as couples themselves. On average you’ll receive anywhere between 600-1000 images, depending on the length of your day, if you choose to do a “first look”, size of your wedding party, location, etc…

How long will it be before we can see our photos?

Our average turnaround time for images is approximately 1-2 weeks for engagement/portrait sessions and 2-3 weeks for weddings.

Should we consider a “First Look”?

Absolutely! There are numerous reasons to do a “First Look” but the biggest reasons are being able to share your first moment together in a private setting. Also, a direct result of taking photographs beforehand is being able to enjoy cocktail hour with your wedding guests.

I am interested in booking with you, where do I go from here?

Click on the CONTACT section on the site and fill your information out accordingly. We’ll set up a time to talk about your wedding day, dreams, how you met (oh yeah, and some of the business details.)

How far in advance should I book?

8-12 months prior to your date is suggested.

Do you use professional equipment and are you insured?

Yes to both questions. I’m equipped with all the latest equipment and technology. I bring back up equipment and plenty of batteries and memory cards. I also carry liability insurance, which some venues require.

Why do you require a retainer fee to hold the date?

Many people book weddings far in advance. In order for me to guarantee that I can block that day off for you, I require a deposit and we sign a contract legally binding me to you and your date. The retainer is not an additional fee on top of the collection prince, it’s simply a percentage of the balance that would be due for my services anyway, 30% of the selected collection.

For portrait sessions, the sitting fee is $150 to secure the day and time for your shoot.

Can we book both an engagement session and a wedding with you?

Yes. In fact, most of my wedding collections include both. An engagement photo shoot consists of a planned “date” of sorts. It’s casual. It’s an adventure, exploring the places that most fit your style. Maybe it’s having a picnic in a field at sunset, riding bikes, canoeing the river, eating ice cream or going to the movies. We’ll talk through wardrobe ideas, props if necessary, and even the possibility of incorporating your dog if you have one. Engagement photos are a great way to warm up to the wedding day photography.

Do you offer artistic wedding albums?

I do! Having beautiful photographs of your wedding is monumentally important. The design of the pages will make your photographs exceptional. We’ll collaborate together to determine the best images that tell your story, creating an heirloom piece to pass down for generations to come. Your can choose a cover that is either leather, silk, or image wrapped. Color swatches will help you further display your unique style on the cover. You also determine the size and number of pages. After that, I’ll take care of everything else.

Albums are included with some of the wedding collections and also offered a la carte. Parent albums are available as well.

Where can I reach you if my question was not answered here?

Here, facebook, or twitter. You’ll find sneak peek images from my most recent weddings. Become a fan!

You--capturing your authentic self in a perfectly You--capturing your authentic self in a perfectly imperfect body. The hills and valleys, where skin rises and falls, the way the light breaks through an opening between your arm and your side, casting shadows that make your face barely visible. Suddenly, the curve of an armpit looks like the swoop of a rock formation in a national park. You are a work of art. Don't doubt yourself. Doubt the culture and media that tell you otherwise.
“You become. It takes a long time. That's why it doesn't happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand.” -Margery Williams Bianco, The Velveteen Rabbit

"I was not ready to participate when I turned 50 a year ago. I had too many secrets; I was hiding too many things. But as I was approaching 51, I began to see more women in the photos that had stories to tell, and I wanted to tell mine. I didn't want to tell my story to compare my situation to others; I wanted to stand alongside these women and align myself with those proud to disclose those things that we hold carefully, those things we don't want to be our identifying characteristics, but those things we want to claim and acknowledge have had an influence on who we are today."

Monica shares a very personal story via her audio interview. Head over to #ReidHealth to see the 50 over 50 exhibit and listen to Monica's heartfelt interview. (Take your mobil device and headphones)

50 OVER 50: "The biggest turning point in my life 50 OVER 50: "The biggest turning point in my life was my senior year of college. Prior to that time, I was very unsure of myself and introverted. In college, I was accepted in to an internship to work at the State House in the Senate. The application process was competitive. It was the first time that I really set a goal for myself to achieve. I wanted this experience. I visualized being accepted and prepared for months. I was the last candidate to be chosen. Then I made the conscience decision to make the very most of the opportunity. I was the first one in the office every day. I volunteered for additional assignments. I networked with staff members, lobbyist and elected officials. I sought out mentors to seek advice. I wasn’t sure what the future had in store for me, but I knew that I could and would find my way."

Though Robin says, “I enjoy being me,” her participation in the project wasn’t just solo; it included a trio of companions. It was an opportunity to share this experience with two of her very special friends, Ann and Shelley. There was safety in numbers and it was a chance to spend quality time with each other. She found the group experience both fun and empowering, and in addition to these shared moments, she enjoyed the day of self-care.

Listen up! We're 12 days from the beginning of the Listen up! We're 12 days from the beginning of the 50 over 50 project exhibit hosted at Reid Health! It hardly seems real to me. Be sure to carve out some time in your schedule to see, read, and hear more about these amazing women. And don't forget to bring air pods or ear buds for your mobil device.

50 OVER 50: Having had a variety of roles in her professional career—including chief financial officer of West End Bank and mayor of Richmond—Shelley arrived at her photo session already uncovering a new phase for herself. At 62, she is now retired from her accounting-driven career and has a new, more creative role, supporting multiple family businesses such as Ply Fiber Arts and Creative Studio, Spoke Easy, and Angelina’s. She explained how in the last five years she’s seen big changes, both positive and negative:

"Titles and roles I've had most of my life are drastically changed or completely gone. Newly retired and living on my own for the first time in my life, I find myself doing a lot of soul searching these days. While I’m confident in who I am, I’m asking myself what my future now looks like with these changes. I’m excited that this experience, being a part of the project will help me to visualize the woman who will live these new dreams."

To read the rest of her story, visit The 50 over 50 Exhibition at Reid Health, August 6, 2023-October 31 in MacDowell Gallery. (2nd floor).

50 OVER 50: Ann was born and raised in Richmond, b 50 OVER 50: Ann was born and raised in Richmond, but for many years now has lived and worked in Indianapolis, IN. Working in Government Affairs leaves little time for Ann to be overly concerned about media expectations (or avoidance) of how women over 50 should be, but when she was younger she had ideas of what life for a woman her age should look like:

"When I was a young girl and much younger woman, I truly felt once you were 50, life wasn’t allowed to be or supposed to be fun and your purpose was to simply do for others, not yourself. I thought a woman was expected to be a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a caregiver. I am none of those. Sadly, my own myth [had me believing] there wasn’t much glamour or excitement left to experience because that is how I saw most women over 50 in my life. But I can snow ski now better than ever in my life, hike mountains for hours on end, and bike all afternoon. I feel I can love deeper, be as active as my body allows and planning the next adventure is even more satisfying and appreciated than any decade before," stated Ann.

To see the rest of her story, visit the 50 over 50 Exhibition at Reid Healthcare August 6, 2023-October 31 in MacDowell Gallery. (2nd floor).
